How It All Started

Adventures of the Discovery Initiative

It has recently been the focus of Trinity Chapel to move from being a sitting church to a reaching church; that is, getting involved in the community. Trinity Chapel has been exploring many outreach activities to see this vision become a reality and has sponsored such projects as Discovery Initiative.

The Starting Point

Harlow was a very unlikely choice of location for us. It is a traditional Essex town with a predominantly Caucasian population. The area is a blend of people across different social class demographics but containing a high percentage of those that would be traditionally termed as a “working class”, and a very small minority community.

Our initial challenge was, how do we bond with the people of Harlow?

Our venture into Harlow was not completely blind. Mr Adebayo Awe who started the initiative, as well as coordinate the projects works in the area at the time and has a passion to see Trinity Chapel reach out there after the Senior Pastor consistently encouraged the leaders to go and fulfil their purpose in the community. Such encouragement fuelled the Co-ordinator’s drive.

The Discovery Initiative has since grown from impacting just a town in Harlow, Essex to influence positively the young people in Custom House, London and a number of them have testified to this effect.

These are teenagers who have gone through the programme and completed all the training as well as receiving certificate put together by Discovery Initiative.

Next Town

By the time you are reading this piece, we would have started out our campaign at Stratford, London. The city set for the 2012 Olympics but in need of role models for the young people of living in the borough.
